UPCOMING EVENTS
        May 14, 2013 – High Desert Museum’s “Natural History Pub Winter Lecture Series”. Leon will present a program on the Ferruginous Hawk, followed by a book signing of his newly released 2nd. printing of A Hawk in the Sun (a memoir of his adventures and discoveries during his 3-year Ferruginous Hawk studies). This event will be hosted at Mcmenamin’s in Bend, Oregon. Doors open at 6:00 P.M. (to order food and drink) program begins at 7:00.

PAST EVENTS
Ponderosa State Park, McCall, Idaho – 7:30 P.M., August 28, 2010.
      Leon will be presenting an evening program on his latest book, The Forgotten Expedition (see “Home” and “Look-About Books” pages for description). Since this 1907 wildlife collecting expedition centered in the area now comprising Ponderosa State Park, come and enjoy some of the highlights of wildlife and area history encountered there 103 years ago. Leon will also read two or three brief excerpts from his book, which will be available for purchase and signing following the program.

November  5, 2010 – In conjunction with the Northwest Nazarene University Homecoming celebration, Leon will present a guest lecture for the NNU School of Science, at 3:00 P.M. in the NNU Brandt Cewnter Grand Lobby, 707 S. University Boulevard, Nampa, Idaho. The topic of this lecture will be his new book, The Forgotten Expedition. This lecture open to the public. A reception and book signing will follow Leon’s presentation.

    Chula Vista Nature Center , Chula Vista, California, November11, 2010. As a follow-up to the center’s “Hawktoberfest”, Leon (a.k.a. Doc Hawk) has been invited to share some of his adventures studying birds of prey, with empahsis on the natural history and behavior of the rare Ferruginous Hawk. Time of the presentation is 6:00 – 8:00 P.m. The Chula Vista Nature Center is located at 1000 Gunpowder Point Dr., Chula Vista, CA. His books will be also available for a book signing as part of this event. Addmission is free to members, $10 for adults, 5$ for kids. December 7, 2010 – At the December 7 meeting of the Golden Eagle Audubon Society, Leon will be presenting a program on his two decade study of Great Gray Owls in the Donnelly-McCall area. The presentation will include a couple readings from his 2008 book, Dead Owls Flying. The meeting starts at 7:00 P.M., in the Morrison Knutson Nature Center, 600 S. Walnut Street, Boise, Idaho.  This program is open to the public and  books will be available for signing.

January 3 – 8, 2011 – Leon joins his long-time colleagues Tim & Erica Craig in teaching the 6-day (Mon. through Sat.) “Birds of Prey of the Snake River Country” class at Northwest Nazarene University. This will be the 29th year that they’ve taught this popular class. For further details regarding this class contact SLBlom@NNU.edu.

March 4, 2011 – “Doc Hawk” is the keynote speaker at the Boy Scout Annual Awards Banquet being held at the Meridian United Methodist Church. At the conclusion of the awards ceremony Leon will present a powerpoint slide show entitled: “A Wildlife Safari with Doc Hawk” which will highlight little known but fascinating nongame wildlife around different locations in Idaho.

March 10, 2011 – At the Thursday evening meeting of the Southwest Idaho Birdering Association Leon will present a program on his newest book, The Forgotten Expedition (see “Home” and “Look-About Books” pages for description). The meeting starts at 7:00 P.M. at the Deer Flat National Wildlife Headquarters (entrance at Roosevelt & Indiana). This meeting is open to the public and books will be available for signing.

May 14, 2011 – Leon is the keynote speaker at the evening banquet of  the
3rd. Annual Snake River Birds of Prey Festival in Kuna, Idaho. The
Banquet begins at 6:00 P.M. in the Reed Elementary School ($20.00). The
public is invited to join in for Leon’s talk on Idaho’s raptor celebrity recluse, the Great Gray Owl.

July 23, 2011 – Centerville Community Center, 115 Grimes Pass Rd.: Idaho Families Centerville Outing Picnic. At this family-friendly picnic Leon will discuss a portion of his new book, The Forgotten Expedition, relating to the passage of a 1907 scientific expedition through the Centerville area on its way north to Payette Lake. Other information will be provided regarding poposed mining exploration in the nearby Grimes Creek area. Leon’s books will be available for purchase and signing. August 23, 2011 – 7:00 P.M. meeting of the Golden Eagle Audubon Society in the Morrison Knutson Nature Center, 600 S. Walnut St., Boise, ID. November 8, 2011 – Idaho Historical Society Brown Bag Lecture. At this luncheon meeting Leon will be giving a presentation on his new book, The Forgotten Expedition. Further information will be provided as details are finalized.

November 16, 2011 – Leon has been invited to present a program on Great Gray Owls to the Buena Vista Audubon Society Meeting, Oceanside, California. The meeting place will be the Buena Vista Nature Center, Address: 2202 South Coast Highway, Oceanside, CA.  A social time kicks off at 7:00 P.M. followed by Leon’s program. The presentation will include a couple readings from Leon’s 2008 book, Dead Owls Flying. The program is open to the public and books will be available for signing.
